School Overview

Central South University is a national key university directly subordinate to the Ministry of Education. It was formed by the merger of Hunan Medical University, Changsha Railway Institute and Central South University of Technology on April 29, 2000.

The former Central South University of Technology was established in 1952. In 1960, it was identified as a national key university. In 1996, it passed the project audit and entered the national “211 Project” as a key construction project. In 1998, China Nonferrous Metals Industry Corporation transferred to the Ministry of Education.

The former Hunan Medical University was formerly known as Xiangya Medical University. Founded in 1914, it was one of the earliest established western medical colleges in China. It enjoyed the reputation of “Nan Xiang Ya and Bei Xi He He” and passed the “211 Project” prequalification in 1996.
