Academia meets practice
Our day-to-day engagement with program participants creates a virtuous circle for thought leadership. Faculty gain insight and ideas and share these back to them in the form of research and practical experience. We generate fresh knowledge and approaches in a rapidly changing world of business, combining Swiss excellence with cultural diversity and an international outlook.

Real impact through research
Our global research centers continuously push boundaries while addressing, in a practical way, the key challenges faced by business and society. Our researchers delve into the most relevant themes for business today, including digital transformation, sustainability and social innovation, future readiness, and world competitiveness, as well as boards and family businesses. We also generate new research under initiatives such as artificial intelligence, workplace well-being, diversity, equity and inclusion, and strategic talent.

Cutting-edge expertise
We draw on our close interactions with the business world to produce compelling, authoritative case studies that are sought after and used by peer business schools, universities, and companies around the world. Our faculty authors publish frequently in the top practitioner journals. We are the most published institution in Harvard Business Review and MIT Sloan Management Review after Harvard Business School and MIT (2020-2022).

We partner and collaborate with numerous key players including Enterprise for Society (E4S), B-Lab, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Business Schools for Climate Leadership, the Global Network for Advanced Management, the Family Business Network (FBN), The Female Quotient, and The Boardroom.

Executive Education Focus

In 2026, IMD was ranked #3 for custom programs by the Financial Times and #7 for open programs. It maintained its top three for custom programs for the third consecutive year, and has remained in the top 10 for open programs for 22 years.
